How to dress like a skater girl

Skater girls dress to be comfortable and fashionable while skateboarding. Their style can be characterized as care-free, androgynous and old-school. Then, each will customize the skater style to their own personal style. It's just important to note that the main priority is to be comfortable while skateboarding.

With that being said, how can you dress like a skater girl? Follow our tips below:

Choosing the right shoes

When it comes to choosing the right skater shoes, it's very important for them to have a flat sole. You cannot skate with chunky shoes or thick sole boots. That's why most skaters stick to flat skate shoes. Some of the most popular within the skate community includes:

  • Vans
  • Converse
  • Adidas skateboarding
  • Nike skateboarding
  • Nike SB X Air Jordan 1
  • Globe International
  • DC shoes

The colour and model will vary from skater to skater. For example, some prefer ankle-high vans, while others prefer the classic old-school model. Try them out and see which one feels best for you.

Choosing the right pants

When it comes to choosing the right pants, you may have noticed skaters opt for baggy pants. This is also for the comfort and freedom baggy pants offer when skateboarding and trying new tricks. Many skater girls also prefer pants, instead of skirts, because it provides some protection in the case they fall off of their skateboard. By wearing more clothing your skin will be better protected from getting hurt or scraped in a fall.

For these reasons true skater girls will also opt for baggy pants or cargo pants for skateboarding and their own personal style. Some of the most known brands for baggy skater pants are:

  • Dickies
  • Carhrtt
  • DC
  • Levi's
  • Patagonia
  • OBEY
  • Adidas
  • Nike

Choosing the right top

In summer you can go for crop tops or tank tops, or even baggy t-shirts. In combination with baggy pants, a tighter top can give you more of a silhouette, if that's what you're going for. You can also go for a classic skater look by sticking to baggy clothes.

In winter, skaters will wear layers as you will start getting hot in the skate park once you start warming up and dong tricks. That's why in the cooler months you can go for a crop top and a nice thick hoodie on top. Other people prefer to do that in reverse and will go for a large baggy shirt over a long sleeve shirt to keep them warm.

Choosing the right sweater

Sweaters are also very important when it comes to dressing like a skater girl. As skateboarding is a physical sport, the sweater you choose should be high quality, breathable and comfortable. You can also opt to buy from skate wear companies or local skate shops. Some ideas are:

  • Hoodies
  • Flannels
  • Crewneck sweaters
  • Long sleeve polo shirts
  • Carhartt/ Dickies jackets
