How to Pluck Eyebrows with Threading

The eyebrows can be a tricky part of the body to care for as only a little mistake could lead to unevenness and a dramatically altered facial expression. While plucking and waxing have their benefits, more people are turning to the method of threading as it offers a less painful way to shape your eyebrows or remove errant hairs. The method takes practice, so you'll need to find some willing volunteers, but once you master this delicate art, you'll have friends lining up round the block to show them how.

If you weren't aware of this technique, OneHowTo.com will explain how to do pluck your eyebrow with threading so you discover a new way to look amazing.

Steps to follow:

To start prepping those brows, you need only three simple things:

  • Thin thread (either cotton or polyester is fine) measuring 45 cm.
  • An eyebrow pencil to mark the area you want to pluck.
  • Some ice to numb the area which also helps to stop further growth.

It is like tweezing, but it's much softer and enables you to have better control over the shape you want to give. It also lasts up to three times longer and many people find the process quite therapeutic.

Once you have cut your 45 cm from the spool, tie the two ends together to form a loop and cut the excess thread spilling out from the knot. Put your hands into the loop with your palms together and then pull them apart so that the loop is tight against the back of your fingers. Hold one hand still and twist the thread clockwise 10 times with the other so that the loop forms a sort of 'x' shape between your hands. This braided thread will be able to remove awkward hairs with movement generated by your hands.

3

Move your fingers so that the two ends of the thread loop are held between your thumb and forefinger, a similar way to how you hold a pair of scissors. Practice in the air by opening up your fingers to make this scissor motion with one remaining closed as the other opens apart. You should see the twisted middle part of your thread rotate as you do this.

Before you start threading, take a look at which direction your hair grows as you need to thread in the opposite direction. Place the twisted centre of your thread on the area you wish to pluck and then make the scissor motion you have just practiced. You should see the thread roll over the area and, in doing so, pull out the follicles by their roots. If you want to thread right, open up your left hand and vice versa.

You need a lot of practice if you're going to be an expert, but you should do it faster and more efficiently with every new attempt.

Put aloe vera gel or an ie cube on the plucked area to reduce sensitivity or inflammation. The method of plucking eyebrows with thread slows hair growth, so if you perform it regularly, the hair follicle will weaken and become less dense. The resulting look is often more natural than if you were to wax, regardless if you are a man or a woman. It offers sharper results than other techniques, as you tame the hairs one by one to define the exact shape you desire.

5

One of the most positive aspects of this technique is that it is possible to remove even the smallest of hairs. Another amazing advantage is that it is not aggressively abrasive to the skin, so people with sensitive skin or allergies may prefer this method over waxing or laser hair removal. It is the best choice when you have extremely sensitive skin or congenital problems which make hair-care tricky.

In the case of observing skin irritation, you should stop using this technique and find a more suitable method (it could be due to an allergy to the thread, so maybe try a different type first). You should be particularly careful if you suffer from acne problems.
