Foundation is ideal for balancing skin tone, giving you a much smoother and more beautiful appearance. If you want to join the trend of making your own cosmetics at home, you can also prepare your own homemade foundation that will give you a perfect and flawless finish.

Here are two possible recipes for you to try, both using very simple ingredients that you probably already have at home. Below are the two possibilities, take note and then choose the one you like.

In the first recipe, you'll get a foundation that's 100% homemade. To make it, you'll need the following ingredients:

  • 3 tablespoons of cornflour or cornmeal
  • half a teaspoon of cocoa powder or red clay
  • a little ground cinnamon

The cinnamon will give your skin a golden hue that is very flattering, so this ingredient is optional. Also, bear in mind that you can add more cocoa powder if your skin is dark or, conversely, reduce it if you are fair-skinned. Besides these products, you also need a pot with a lid so you can save the foundation for use at other times.

Preparing this homemade foundation is very simple. First, put the cornflour or cornmeal into your chosen pot and then add the cocoa and cinnamon. Stir all ingredients with the help of a small spoon. The mixture is ready when you've got a uniform and homogeneous paste.

If this option doesn't convince you and you'd prefer to develop a foundation based on other cosmetics, you can also make one via the following recipe. You'll get a similar makeup to the really popular BB or CC Cream. They are all-in-one products that moisturise the skin and provide a light colour to conceal imperfections and even give skin tone at the same time. You need the following products:

  • 1 tablespoon of facial moisturiser
  • 1/4 a teaspoon of sunscreen
  • a little loose powder

Take a jar or container that can be closed with a lid, and add the facial cream and sunscreen. Mix both ingredients together with a small spoon or a wooden stick and then add the amount of powder you need, depending on whether you want to achieve a lighter or darker makeup. Remember that makeup is ideally the same colour as your skin to blend in perfectly with it, so there are no unsightly marks.

If you notice that the mixture is too fluid, you only need to add a little more makeup powder to thicken it.

6

Once you have prepared your homemade foundation, you just need to apply it to your face. This must be done well to achieve a natural look and an attractive appearance. Ideally, use a specific makeup brush such as a flat tapered foundation brush or a rounded foundation brush made of synthetic hair (you can see them in the picture) so the finish is perfect. Take a look at what to do if the foundation is too light.

First, you have to put a little makeup on the back of your hand and brush a small amount of product across the face, with little strokes. Start at the central part of the face and then apply it brushing outwards towards the outside area in circular movements.

Hi Lisa,

The cocoa powder will work better than the cinnamon.
