How Often Should I Shave My Face?

Facial hair is a classic aesthetic feature of the male sex. Shaving is a common health practice for men carried out for hygiene and beauty purposes. While some men let their hair grow and groom it for a kick on their physical appearance, other men prefer to shave it and sport a smooth jawline. Shaving too often can be abrasive on the skin and also may have undesirable effects on the growth of the hair.

Shaving and Thicker Hair

It is a common belief that more frequent shaving leads to the growth of thicker hair. As the hair grows back again you may notice a blunt tip that is harder and sharper; however, if it keeps growing it will soften out. Since men don’t usually let facial hair grow very long it may seem as if the hair is getting thicker and more abundant.

Shaving with an Electric Razor or a Razor Blade

There isn´t a substantial difference in terms of efficiency or quality between shaving using an electric razor or a razor blade. It all comes down to individual preferences. If you are using a razor blade it is important to make sure that you apply some shaving cream or gel and that your face is wet. Move slowly and make sure you clean the razor every two or three strokes.

To prevent irritation make sure that you are applying aftershave and moisturizing your face after shaving and that you keep proper care of the razor.

How Often To Shave

There are certain factors that can help you decide how often to shave. You need to consider the amount of facial hair that you have and how dark and thick it is. Daily shaving may be required for men that have abundant, dark facial hair. Also many customer service roles require men to shave every day and sport clean jawlines.

On the other hand, some men can get by shaving every other day or a few times a week. Some men actually prefer to not shave quite often for aesthetic purposes. It may help define personality and character; as well as, a small amount of facial hair can give men confidence.

Finally, some men don’t grow facial hair and thus wouldn't need to shave. In these cases, shaving can actually irritate and harm the skin. Equally, teens should not rush into shaving their face until they have fully developed enough hair that needs to be taken care of.
