Benefits of exfoliating skin under the beard

Due to larger hair follicles and higher testosterone levels, men’s skin is usually thicker than the skin of women and exfoliation is very useful for toning and softening your skin. When you remove dead skin cells from the skin under your beard through exfoliation, your pores get unclogged and your skin is left clean and fresh. In addition to unclogging pores, exfoliation is also helpful in removing grime and dirt, that you may have gathered on your skin after working and sweating. The process rejuvenates the skin cells on your face, thereby enhancing your complexion and minimizing the effects of ageing. Exfoliating the skin under your beard is also helpful with making shaving easier. As your pores are not clogged, the razor will glide smoothly and help you get rid of any in-grown hairs as well.

How often to exfoliate

The best advice is to exfoliate skin under a beard every other day, or at least twice a week. It is not recommended to exfoliate everyday, as it may leave your skin red and irritated, maybe even leading to breakouts as well. Too much exfoliation can strip off the natural oils from your skin, thus making your skin dry and blemished. So, maintaining a good balance and developing a healthy routine is important.

The type of exfoliator needed

To exfoliate the skin under your beard, you will need a scrub soap that has some grit in it. The grittiness may come from a combination of ingredients, including fruit seeds, sea salt, granulated pumice etc., but using as natural a prdouct as possible is advised for you and everybody else. Some soaps or cleansers may also contain alpha hydroxyl acid, salicylic acid or beta hydroxyl acid that are helpful in breaking up the bond between your skin and the dead cells on it. While you need a facial cleanser with some grittiness in it, it should not be too gritty to leave your skin dry and ragged. Use a gentle cleanser or exfoliator to get your job done.

How to exfoliate

Wet your face under the shower and rub a little amount of cleanser or exfoliator in your palms. Then give a massage to your face using gentle circular motion. Make sure that your movements are not too hard. The grit in your cleanser will do its job and you will actually feel it working. Massage for around 30 to 60 seconds and then rinse clean. As exfoliating can leave your skin dry, apply a good moisturizer to help your skin remain soft and fresh.

Exfoliation aftercare

Exfoliation increases the circulation of blood in your skin, breaks down the toxins and encourages new skin cells to develop. Therefore, it is best advised to drink lots of water after the process. This will drain toxins from your body and hydrate it from the inside. Don’t forget to apply a moisturizer and avoid exposing your face directly to the sun for around 12 hours.
