When we talk about love handles or muffin tops, we are refering to that excess fat which build ups on your hips and in most cases your thighs too. As we know, we need to follow a low-calorie diet and exercise frequently if we want to fight and prevent those fatty deposits becoming a permanent feature on our body. Steps to follow:


Exercise 1

This exercise is great for getting rid of love handles and burning fat stored on your hips. Stand up, keep your back straight, feet slightly apart and knees slightly bent. Now just bend your torso to the right and then return to the starting position. Do this movement in sets of 25, first to the right and then to the left.


Exercise 2

Keep standing straight to do this exercise, step forward with your right leg and bend your left knee down to the floor. This way, you are putting all your weight on your front foot. Once you are in this position, bounce gently as much as you can.

You need a mat to do this exercise that works specifically to get rid of love handles and tone your legs. Lie on your right side, resting your elbow on the floor and raise your leg up and down. Keep yourself stretched out as you do it. Repeat this exercise in sets of 20, then change sides and do it with your left leg.

Exercise 4

Get into a doggy position on your mat, with your knees and forearms on the floor. Keep your back straight and while keeping your knees bent, lift your right leg up to the right until it reaches hip level, so your legs form a 90° angle. Repeat this movement 20 times and then do the same with your left leg. This exercise is perfect for toning your thighs and getting rid of the fat on your hips.

We recommend an exercise that apart from helping get rid of love handles, is also very effective in strengthening and toning your bum. Get into the position on your mat as shown below, and start by raising one leg, straightening the knee and then stretching out your leg as much possible. To make this exercise more difficult and to firm up this area faster, you can put a dumbbell behind your knee and do the movement. Give it a go!

In addition to these specific exercises to get rid of love handles, you should also do cardiovascular activities that will help you burn fat. It might be possible that you don't experience any change by only doing the exercises listed above. Performing cardio exercises helps removing the fat from the area, that will be more toned with the exercises we've mentioned before.

Some great activities that burn fat are running, step aerobics, Zumba and cycling.
