Sage is a perfect remedy to cover grey hair because, thanks to its astringent and invigorating properties, it makes the flow of melanin return and so the colour returns to the hair. However, it is of vital importance that you remember that sage does not work on completely white hair but is instead indicated to treat grey hairs or premature greying which appear due to a fault in the injection of melanin.

Know that grey also appear due to reasons associated with natural ageing and these cases are not treatable with the natural remedy we are suggesting.

For the first sage treatment for grey hair you just need half a cup of dried sage and 2 cups of water. All you have to do is put the water to boil with the sage leaves and leave it simmer for about 30 minutes over low heat; then remove from the heat, strain the water and leave to cool.

To get it to work on your hair you first need to moisten the hair and then you can rinse it with the previously prepared liquid. It is recommended to repeat this process every time you go to shower so to revitalize the flow. After you have concealed the grey hairs you just have to repeat this rinsing process once a week to maintain its color.

The power of sage mixed with rosemary can also be used for treating grey hair naturally; this second ingredient also softens the hair and gives it a fresh scent. The first results of the treatment can be seen after two weeks or after the first month, depends on the person. Find out how to make rosemary oil at home on OneHowTo.

To do this you just need:

  • 1/3 cup dried sage leaves
  • 1/3 fresh rosemary
  • 1 cup of distilled water

You need only boil all ingredients in a pot and leave it all to cook for 10 minutes; then remove from the heat and let the mix sit for 30 minutes before use. Strain the water to remove the remains of leaves and rosemary and the home remedy will be ready to use.

With damp hair apply the prepared mixture and massage the scalp to help reactivate the follicles. Allow to act on your hair for 20 minutes and then rinse with warm water. It is recommended to repeat this procedure 3 times a week during the first month and then 1 time per week to maintain the colour.

To prepare you just have to make an infusion of black tea with 20 grams of sage; then leave it to cool and apply it on your hair when damp. Massage in circular motions to revive the flow of melanin and, after 10 minutes, rinse your hair.

To see results it is important that the first few weeks you repeat this process 3 times a week. When you start to see that the grey is going you can gradually reduce the frequency until doing so just once a month.

You may find different forms of sage (essential oil, dried leaves...) in any health food store. You can also purchase the actual plant at a garden center
