White gold isn't a new metal, it's a precious metal alloy which is made from a combination of melting two or more different metals. Due to this, it's common to use 18 carat gold which contains 75% of pure gold and 25% of other metals.

White gold is an alloy of pure gold combined with other white metals such as silver, platinum, palladium or nickel. It's usually coated with rhodium to achieve a glossy polished finish.

By using metals such as palladium or platinum, which are more expensive than pure gold, it turns out that a piece of white gold is more expensive than that of yellow gold.

The difference in cost can be from 5% to 50% higher than yellow gold, depending on the manufacturing process.

You can also find other colors of gold such as Rose or green gold. Even though, the most expensive kind of gold is still white gold, even though the amount of gold may be the same as other kinds of gold, remember it's the added alloys that make it more expensive.
