How to Wear a Bra with a Backless Dress

Want to wear a backless dress and do not know what bra to wear? This is something that can, for instance, happen to any woman on her wedding day or when attending a special event. But this should not be a problem, as there are different options of undergarments to enjoy with shirts and dresses with an open back. So that you know the support options that you have, at oneHOWTO, we explain how to wear a bra with a backless dress.

Multi-way bra

One of the most comfortable and recommendable bras to wear with a backless dress are multi-way bras. This type of bra can change the straps and achieve multiple combinations, depending on what the neck and back of your dress or shirt is like. This will give you the support you need by having one strap around the neck if it can be hidden under the dress, or it can strap on to your torso if your neck will also be showing too. This is an especially useful way to wear a bra with a backless dress if you have big breasts.

Adhesive fasteners

Another possibility to look back are adhesive fasteners which do not need any straps but simply adhere straight on to your chest. These work best with a tight-fit dress and not a loose one, as they offer limited support. Also, they work better on smaller chested women as opposed to large breasted women. They work by sticking to the women's breasts to cover them perfectly and can be taken off without any harm at all.

Silicone adhesives nipple covers

If these options are still not enough and are still wondering how to wear a bra with a backless dress, you can also opt for silicone adhesive nipple covers. This is very similar to the above but in reduced dimensions. Note that these do not provide any support at all. Instead, they just offer nipple coverage, which makes them a good option if the dress provides you with support but is a bit see-through or the fabric is so soft it will make your nipple protrude.

Sew-in bra dress

For girls and women with large chests, maybe some of these options just not work at all because they do not grip enough. In that case, alternatives should be sought such as a sew-in dress bra to look great in a backless dress. In this way, they will be incorporated into the dress and for whenever you put it on. You can find them in lingerie shops and department stores. These are very common in cocktail dresses and wedding dresses, but not as common in casual dresses.

The duct tape trick

You may already know Kim Kardashian's secret to perfect suppor when wearing the most daring of dresses, but just in case you missed it, here it goes.

Get some duct tape and stick it to your shoulder, vertically. Take the duct tape down until you reach the bottom of your breast, using a cotton pad or similar to cover your nipples. Stick the end of the tape to your underboob. This will not only cover your nipples without anybody noticing, it will also make sure your breasts stay in place, which is why it is a great idea if your dress is not only backless but also has a shocking cleavage too, avoiding any uncomfortable sideboob situations.

Remember it's highly important to cover your nipples before using duct take to avoid harm when taking the tape off.

Wear a bra that will go with your dress

Another option to wear a bra with a backless dress is to actually let the bra show. Although you may think that it looks off or tacky, the truth is that showing your bra a little can give you that extra cool touch too depending on the style of dress you are wearing.

The best trick to make your bra look good with a backless dress is to choose a nice bra, preferably lace, in the same color as your dress, this way people will not even notice it's actually a bra and will think it's part of your gown.

Turn a normal bra into a backless bra

If you're up for some DIY, you can try to make a backless bra out of one of your normal bras. You'll only need scissors, needles and thread to do so.

Cut the bra strap right at the edge of where it ends. Go to the front of your bra, and cut the lace by the bra's cup, as close to the edge as possible. Repeat the procedure on the other side, so you're left with the two straps sewn only from the top and the two cups sewn together.

Get the loose strap and bring it down to the bottom back of the cup, making sure there are no tingles. Get the sewing pins to hold them, making sure you find a measurement that fits you perfectly. Repeat on the other side, making sure you don't prick yourself while trying it on.

Place the bra straps over each shoulder, thus creating a bra with absolutely no back, but that still supports your chest. If the chosen measurement gives you the desired support, you can get rid of the pins and sew the strap to the bra. You now have your DIY backless bra, which is perfect for those dresses with straps but no back.
