But the first time that you get a Swedish massage, you may be nervous and not know what to expect. Have no fear, OneHowTo is here to tell you exactly what to expect and how to prepare when you have a Swedish massage. We will prepare you for what lies ahead!

Wear Comfortable Clothing and Undergarments

There is a lot that you can expect from your first massage and many people do not know that you will have to undress to some degree, depending on what you are comfortable with.

You will be under a sheet, but the massage therapist needs to get their hands on all of your problem spots. Undressing down to underwear is usually most comfortable for most people. Although some like to take all of their clothes off to get fully worked out.

If you have long hair, it is best to pull it back while the therapist is giving your massage. Many massage therapists will also take your hair down so that they can massage your head and scalp.

Talking to your Therapist

Before you go into your massage, your therapist will ask you what your problem areas are, to get the best out of your massage you should be honest with them and describe any tension as full as possible.

They will be able to focus the massage on these problem areas and you will be feeling better and more relaxed in no time! If you have a preference of a male or female therapist working on you, make sure to specify that when you book your appointment.

Preparing for a Swedish Massage

Preparing for a massage is pretty easy, as it is supposed to be a relaxing experience. Make sure that you have a good meal and let it fully digest before showing up to your appointment. Remember to drink a lot of water as well, as a massage has a tendency to dehydrate your body, so you want to be prepared for that.

Make sure that you are showered before your massage, as even though your therapist may use massage oils you don't want to turn up smelling bad. Some massage therapists do have changing rooms where you can shower, but do so first as a precaution to avoid any embarrassment.

After the Massage

After your massage, you should feel relaxed and rejuvenated. The power of massages are great and you will be hooked on them! Make sure to tip your therapist if this is the norm, and keep their business card for your next appointment.
