How to Moisturise Your Skin with Home Remedies

There are several ways to use oats and at OneHowTo we propose making a moisturiser with this ingredient. To make it you need:

  • ¼ cup of previously cooked oatmeal
  • 1 tablespoon pre washed aloe vera pulp
  • 2 tablespoons of honey

Oatmeal is an excellent option to provide moisture to our skin. Aloe vera promotes healing, reduces the visibility of wrinkles and nourishes the dermis whilst honey has great moisturising, cleansing and antioxidant effects which prevent premature ageing. For this reason, these three ingredients together make up for a perfect homemade moisturizer.

To develop this natural moisturiser you must cook the oatmeal and let it cool. Then add the pulp of aloe that you can get by cutting a leaf from the plant and removing the gel inside it washing it to eliminate the iodine it contains. Finally add the honey. Mix well and apply on your skin once or twice a day. Note that this option does not have preservatives and will last about 7 days.

If your intention is not to replace your moisturiser but simply get further alternatives to moisturise your skin then take a herbal bath once a week. This is ideal to moisturise the body using home remedies. This option has perfect ingredients for the skin such as chamomile, used to reduce inflammation, soothe and moisturise the skin, lemon balm which helps tone the dermis and honey that moisturises and has antioxidant properties which we have already explained above.

To make this invigorating bath you should fill the tub with warm water, it is important that it is not too hot, and add an infusion prepared with:

  • 2 litres of water
  • 6 tablespoons or bags of chamomile
  • 6 tablespoons or bags of lemon balm
  • 6 teaspoons honey

When the water starts to boil add the plants, turn off the heat and then add the honey stirring it well. Let the mixture sit for at least 30 minutes and once this time elapses begins to prepare the bath and add this liquid to the bath water. A 20 minute bath is perfect to enjoy the benefits of this mixture on our skin.

An oatmeal bath is also an excellent alternative to provide moisture to your skin and naturally and directly receive all the benefits of this food. This ingredient is perfect for promoting moisture, soothing irritated skin and provide nutrients that will make it look beautiful and in perfect condition.

You can make this bath up to 2 times per week and it is very simple to prepare. You just have to blend 2 cups of oat flakes, wrap them in a gauze and tie a knot to make a bag and then place it in the bath so the cereal releases all its properties.

The properties of shea butter have turned this natural ingredient into a most outstanding moistening alternative. It supplies our skin with vitamin A, D, E and F, fights skin irritation, helps prevent stretch marks and nourishes the skin and hair by removing any trace of dryness.

Moisturising skin with shea butter is very easy because it is a product that does not require preparation and you can buy it in natural food shops or herbalists. We recommend buying class A butter as this is the most refined version, with greater benefits for your skin.

This product hardens when the weather is not very warm so it is convenient to melt a portion using the bain marie technique before applying it to the skin. Apply it as you would any other moisturising lotion. You can use shea butter daily or whenever you want to give your skin extra moisture.

Another excellent idea to enhance the skin moisture naturally is to choose oils that have outstanding moisturising properties, provide vitamins and allow us to have beautiful skin.

Two good choices are olive oil and almond oil. These can be applied directly on cleansed skin or added to our moisturising lotion to enhance its effects. It is important to understand that these products should be used sparingly because they can stain our clothes and fabrics. It is recommended to apply them on the skin for 20 minutes and then clean well or alternatively mix them with other cosmetic products.
