Rosewater has multiple uses and is a natural product with many beneficial properties for our health and beauty. It is particularly useful to:

  • Clean, tone and moisturise the skin.

  • Attenuate wrinkles, stretch marks and imperfections.
  • Protect the skin against free radicals and, therefore, combat skin aging.

  • It can be used as a fresh scent or smooth fragrance.
  • Relieve headaches and migraines.
How to Make Rosewater - Step 1

To make rosewater, the first thing you should do is to obtain all the ingredients and materials needed:

  • 500 g of fresh rose petals
  • 1/2 litre distilled water
  • a saucepan or casserole with lid
  • a jar or glass bottle with hermetic seal

When choosing the rose petals, look out for reds and pinks for maximum scent whilst also making sure that they are fresh and dirt-free. Once you have selected the rose petals, put a pan filled with distilled water on the hob and add the petals. Distilled water is widely available -in large supermarkets or pharmacies - and is preferable to other water as it is more beneficial when applied topically to skin.

How to Make Rosewater - Step 3

Turn the hob up to high and just as it's about to boil, turn the heat down. This step is important because the steam is from where the rose essential oil is derived, which boast a number of beneficial properties. Cover the pan and let simmer for about 10 minutes.


Next, turn off the heat, stir a little and let stand for about 60 minutes, as if it were an infusion. Then, simply filter the content of the pan to remove the petals and keep the remaining liquid, i.e. the rosewater. Finally, pour the rosewater in a glass bottle, close it tightly and place in the refrigerator until the next day.
