How to Make Homemade Soap for Oily Skin

If you have oily skin, you will already know that the process of cleaning and taking care of your face are essential for making you look perfect and spotless at any time. To maintain your skin at its best levels you need to use suitable products for your skin type. Do you want to discover a natural, homemade remedy for oily skin?

Keep reading the following OneHowTo article in which we explain how to make homemade soap for oily skin - an inexpensive solution that will help regulate excess sebum on your skin. Take note!

Steps to follow:
1

Before explaining how to make your own soap, you should know that you need to look after your skin regularly to prevent it from being greasy. A basic maintenance plan is based on regular cleaning and exfoliation.

Your diet is also important; if you're prone to oily skin, you must regulate the consumption of foods that can encourage the emergence and accumulation of sebum in your skin, such as fatty meat, salt, added sugars or processed foods among others.

But how do you know if your skin is oily? It is very simple! Normally this skin type is prone to spots or blackheads, and always appears shiny, especially in the T-zone - that is, the forehead, nose and chin.

2

Cleaning your skin is essential for both your appearance and your health. Just think of how the sebum from your skin, once accumulated, can block your pores and thus produce impurities and toxin accumulation as a result. This, in turn, will cause problems such as acne, blackheads or a dull, unhealthy-looking dermis.

To avoid these problems deriving from sebum accumulation, we propose some natural solutions - including how to make homemade soap for oily skin - so that you can keep your skin clean and at its best.

3

The first option that we offer is a coconut or jojoba oil-based product, which will help you keep your skin naturally clean and beautiful. To make this soap for oily skin you'll need:

  • Coconut or jojoba oil
  • Caustic soda
  • Distilled water
  • The essential oil of your choice, although lemon and lavender are especially recommended to help eliminate excess grease
  • Disposable gloves

You are encouraged to use coconut or jojoba oil for this product, since they are perfect for oily skin due to their moisturizing power, rapid absorption and ability to regulate sebum production.

4

First of all, put the gloves on to prevent accidents. Put 30 g caustic soda in a glass bowl and then pour in 65ml of distilled water. This first step should be carried out very carefully, because splashes can burn you. As such, caustic soda should always be handled with care.

It is important that you do it in a sink and let the mixture cool completely before proceeding.

5

Once you have the cold solution, you should heat 210 ml of your selected oil (either coconut or jojoba) in a pan to make your soap. When it reaches around 40°C (105º F), carefully pour it into the container with the caustic soda and distilled water. Then whisk the mixture until you have a thick mass.

6

Next, add around 30 drops of essential oil (lemon or lavender) and whisk the mixture again so that the ingredients are well blended. Once the solution is ready, leave it to settle for between 12 and 24 hours covered with a towel or cloth.

Finally, you should leave the mixture in a cool, dry place for a month so that it hardens before you can start using your natural homemade soap for oily skin. It is important to avoid using the product before the recommended time because it contains soda, which could irritate and affect your skin. Wait 30 days before using it.

7

Once this time has elapsed, you'll now be able to use your 100% natural homemade soap. The best treatment is to wash your face twice a day, at morning and at night, and immediately moisturize the skin with cosmetic products with a low oil content or specific creams for oily skin. Our article on how to moisturize oily skin contains several recommendations which will teach you how to do it without making the skin look even more oily.

It is also important to exfoliate the skin once a week or apply a mask every 10 days or so, as this product is ideal to remove fat from the skin and helps to close the pores.

8

Another less-risky option is to get rid of the caustic soda and prepare homemade soap for oily skin with the following ingredients:

  • Jojoba oil
  • Glycerin
  • Wheat bran flakes

To make this soap you need to thaw the glycerin in a water bath and prepare silicone molds that have been previously coated with olive oil. Add two tablespoons of wheat bran flakes to each mold.

Add two tablespoons of jojoba oil to the melted glycerin and any other essential oils depending on personal preference. Pour the glycerin into the mold and let the mixture sit for about two hours. After that, they will be ready to remove from the mold and use. Give it a go!
