A great way to take advantage of its excellent properties is incorporating it into our routine by using oatmeal soap. This helps remove dead skin cells, soften and restore its natural moisture and is also effective in the treatment of delicate and sensitive skin. In the following OneHowTo article we bring you a very simple recipe so you know how to make homemade oatmeal soap. Try to do it yourself and see the results.
Besides oats, the products we need to make this homemade soap are: olive oil, lye, cocoa butter, and if we like to give it a little scent add a few drops of essential lemon oil.
Once you have gathered all products you must prepare an oatmeal infusion. To do this, place a saucepan with 213 ml of water and 1 tablespoon of oatmeal. Remove from heat and when boiling leave to cool. Finally, when cold, strain the mixture to obtain the infusion and pour it into a plastic container.
The next step in making homemade oatmeal soap is to add 85 ml of lye in the plastic container and let it cool for one hour. It is essential to do it slowly, stirring the mixture always in the same direction. Lye is very dangerous and toxic, therefore we recommend you do it in a ventilated place and use a mask and gloves for protection.
While the mixture is cooling, get another container and mix 682 ml of olive oil with 10 ml of cocoa butter. Enter the bowl in the microwave to heat the mixture.
When the mixture of oat infusion and lye has cooled, gradually add the olive oil and cocoa butter. Do not forget to stir the mixture always in the same direction until you feel it thickens. Leave to stand for 15 minutes or so, and stir again. Repeat this last step until the mixture has a texture similar to mayonnaise.
For the oatmeal soap to have a pleasant aroma, add 10 drops of essential lemon oil and stir the mixture again until a smooth solution is reached. If you prefer using another fragrance you can choose a different essential oil.
Finally, pour the obtained mixture into a container that is broad and with a low rise, it will serve as a mould for our homemade oatmeal soap. Sprinkle over the mixture 1 tablespoon of oatmeal to decorate it and make it look nicer. Now we just need to wait for the result. Let the mixture sit for 15 days, it will be sufficient time for it to harden and to then cut the pieces of soap. Ready! With these simple steps it is possible to create a homemade oatmeal soap, excellent for the care and beauty of the skin.
