Lately more and more women are opting for depilatory wax that's prepared at home; the reason is that, in this way, they get much smoother, cared for skin without any hair. The way to do this is by taking sugar, an ingredient that can act as wax and pluck hair from the root.

This technique has been used for centuries in the East and now reaches our homes with the intention of staying. It is a natural method without additives that, as well as removing hair, improves skin health by lowering the pain felt with every pull.

To be able to make depilatory wax you need to gather these ingredients that you are sure to have at home:

  • 2 cups sugar
  • 3 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 3 tablespoons water

Once you have these ingredients, the first thing you have to know is that the method we follow is very similar to when we prepare syrup in our recipes. Here we give you step by step details.

The first step to make homemade depilatory wax is to add all the ingredients in a pot and cook at a medium temperature. You should not leave the kitchen as you will need to stir it constantly to prevent it from burning. When you see it starts to boil, reduce the heat and leave for a few minutes until you see it forming a paste which we can use for plucking.

The moment where you must remove the mixture from the heat is when you see that the colour is lightly browned but if you see that the sugar has blackened you must throw it away because it is burned and could harm your skin. When it has a golden hue, you have to remove the paste from the heat and allow it to cool in a cool place, not in the refrigerator because we do not want it to be too hard.

The right moment is when you see that the sugar is sticky, so it will help us pluck the hair.

To wax with sugar it is essential that, first of all, you cleanse the area you want to wax well so that the home depilatory wax adheres better to the skin. You need to use your hands and to prevent the mixture from sticking together too much it is advisable that you put some olive or almond oil on your hands.

Ideally you should apply the wax with your hand or, if you prefer, using a spatula that is dipped in oil so that it slides better. You will have to apply the wax to the area you want to treat in the opposite direction to the hair, then place a strip of paper or cloth over it and pull hard to remove the hair.

As you see, the hair removal method is exactly the same as when we use depilatory wax but, this time, the products used are natural and very good for healthy skin.
