How to lighten jeans with bleach
Lightening the colour of your jeans can give a new look to a pair of jeans you have had for many years. You can also upgrade your current wardrobe by giving your jeans a designer look. Denim trousers can be lightened by applying products easily found at DIY stores or through domestic use bleach. When using chlorine you should use gloves and remove the chlorine from your jeans quickly to not make them lighter than what you want. You'll need:
- Household bleach
Steps to follow:
Fill the bathtub halfway with warm water and add 1/2 cup of bleach.
Iron your jeans to make sure there are no wrinkles that may cause an irregular lightening pattern.
Place the jeans in the hot water and bleach until the desired colour is reached.
Remove the jeans from the water and rinse well with cold water (you can fill the tub with cold water). If you do not rinse them in cold water the jeans will continue to lighten beyond the desired colour.
You can also use a sponge with bleach and gently rub the sponge over your jeans until the desired colour is reached (an alternative to the bathtub method).
Wash the jeans in a separate washing load from other clothing so that excess bleach does not harm other items in the washing machine. Rinse with cold water.
After the initial wash, you can wash your jeans with items of other colours.
You can now enjoy your lighter jeans that will look new to everyone else.
