You'll need:
  • 1 cup of sugar
  • 1/2 cup of moisturizer (or shower gel)
Steps to follow:
1

Exfoliating your body is a beauty routine you must do at least once a week if you want to keep your skin hydrated, radiant and clean. With exfoliation you'll get rid of all the dead cells in the body, regenerate them, get rid of impurities and the final result is a soft and beautiful dermis. Moreover, you should know that it's also amazingly useful to reactivate blood circulation and fight the uncomfortable conditions of cellulite and orange-peel skin.

Before you start, take into account that it's important to exfoliate the skin in the shower or bath, as doing this with humid skin will protect your natural structure and will prevent irritation or dryness.

There are several products you can use to exfoliate your body at home, which is why it's not necessary to buy commercial products. One of the most popular is sugar, whether refined or brown, as its grain is perfect to get rid of dead skin effectively. We give you several options to prepare a sugar-based body scrub to exfoliate your skin:

  • Sugar and lemon scrub: mix 3 spoonfuls of sugar, the juice of half a lemon and 3 spoonfuls of olive oil.
  • Honey and sugar scrub: Mix 1/2 a cup of white sugar, 3 spoonfuls of honey and 2 spoonfuls of olive or almond oil.
  • Sugar and body lotion scrub: mix 3 spoonfuls of body lotion with 2 spoonfuls of sugar.

Another way to exfoliate your body at home is doing so with salt, but preferably the bigger grain type such as coarse salt. It's ideal to leave your skin super soft and completely free of impurities. In this case, we advise you to make this homemade scrub with marine salt and 1/4 cup of olive or almond oil, they are both very hydrating. If you also want to give a scent to the lotion, add some drops of the essential oil of your choice, whether it's rose, lavender, lemon, etc.

4

If you not only want to exfoliate your skin but also want this routine to get rid of cellulite in certain areas, then coffee is your best option. Caffeine is an excellent ingredient to promote blood circulation, reduces cellulite and makes your skin smooth and firm.

To make a coffee scrub, you only need to mix 2 cup of ground coffee, half a cup of white sugar and 3 spoonfuls of olive or almond oil.

5

Sodium bicarbonate is a product that is already added to many beauty treatments and exfoliation is one of them. You can get the softness of your skin back to normal by making a scrub with 2 spoonfuls of sodium bicarbonate, 2 spoonfuls of oatmeal flour and a bit of water.

6

When you have made your preferred homemade body scrub, you'll only have to apply it on your wet skin. To obtain best results, the best is to pour a bit of exfoliating lotion on your hand and apply it to the area with circular and soft movements upwards. After a minute's massage, get it off with plenty of lukewarm or cold water.

It's recommended to avoid exfoliating the most delicate areas of your body, such as the neckline or the breasts. You can apply a facial scrub to these areas because the grain is more suited for areas with sensitive skin.

At the end, apply a generous amount of your usual body lotion.

7

You should never overdo exfoliation. It can be effective, but doing it to excess can irritate your skin and cause damage, so be sure to do it only once a week.

If you have undergone a peeling, you've suffered a sunburn or have some form of dermatitis, it's not advisable to exfoliate your skin until the condition has improved.

8

Don't forget that after exfoliating your body, it's the ideal time to apply your regular moisturizers. You'll see how the dermis absorbs everything much faster, benefiting from all of the nutrients effectively.
