How To Combine Clothes To Look Good (Men)

How To Combine Clothes To Look Good (Men)

A few days ago we discussed how to dress formally. But we cannot dress formally all the time... It is possible (and ideal) to combine all types of clothing, from sportswear to casual clothes and that are more appropriate for a night out. Each season requires a basic palette of colors to combine. For example, in summer and spring we recommend light and pastel colors because they combine best with the increase in light that we experience at these times of the year. In winter and autumn browns and dark colors should dominate our color combinations.

This is why at OneHowTo we'd like to show men how to combine clothes to look good.

Combining clothes with white

White: White is the first of the base colors which also looks good with almost any other color, except perhaps with other light or pastels tones. It is preferable to combine it with stronger colors; nothing looks better than a classic white shirt combined with blue jeans.

Obviously if you are going to wear white trousers you should try combining this with a green, red or blue shirt or try any color other than light tones in order to achieve a good contrast.

Combining menswear with black

Black: This is another basic color that combines with almost everything except brown (especially dark brown) and dark blues. It is not advisable to dress all in black, unless we are in mourning or dressing very formally. To my taste black looks great when combined with grey, white or red.

Combining menswear with grey

Grey: The best color for men (to my taste, of course) is grey because it is not as extreme as black or white and can combine with almost anything. Usually I like the combination of grey with dark pink, salmon or violet. Besides, grey is synonymous with sobriety and makes us look thinner.

Combining menswear with brown

Brown: This is a great color but in turn it's also one of the hardest ones to combine. Brown can not be combined with dark blue or green and the best way to work brown is in its same color range, i.e. more light or dark brown, khaki, sand. Ah, white looks good with brown as do jeans in light tones.

It's not all about color combination

As the title of this section suggests, it's not all about combining colors when men need to look good in clothes.

It's important to dress well according to the occasion to look good. It's OK to combine a shirt, jeans and sneakers for an informal occasion such as a dinner with friends, but it won't be appropriate for a christening or wedding.

Avoid wearing same colored top and bottoms unless you have a very personal style as it will look over the top. Moreover, unless you are wearing a suit, don't use the same fabric, combine cotton with jeans for example.

To look good on any occasion, make sure you have different colored sneakers and always have a pair of semi-formal shoes for when you go out to a club or have an informal meeting.
