How to Apply Red Lipstick Properly
Red is the most popular color for lipstick; it's both classic and bold, and it looks great on mostly every type of face and skin color. However, red is such a loud color that applying it wrong can look quite clownish. It's very important to balance well the rest of your makeup and choose the right lipstick shade. There are many different kinds of red lipstick; glossy reds are striking and give you an Eighties touch, matte shades are sophisticated and creamy lipsticks are comfortable and moisturizing.

Before applying red lipstick, create a workable base by applying neutral foundation over your face, including your lips. This will tone down your natural lip color and help the red lipstick last much longer.
Since red is a very noticeable color, it's important that your lips are well-shaped and defined. Use a white eyeliner pencil, a light concealer or a highlighter or illuminator around your lips to give them more volume, especially on the V of your cupid's bow.
With a lip liner the same shade as your red lipstick, shape your lips. If you don't like the shape of your lips - whether they are asymmetrical, too thick or too thin - you can learn how to apply lipstick according to lip shape here.
If you want to get more discreet, less framed lips, you can leave this step for once you have applied the red lipstick.
Now's the time to actually apply the red lipstick. It is best to do it with a specific makeup brush instead of the lipstick bar, because the result will be more accurate and more durable.
Once that's done, remove the remains of the lipstick with a tissue and apply another layer of red lipstick. This way, the makeup will look smooth and well-finished.
Done - now you have well-defined, beautiful red lips!
