How to Apply Matte Lipstick

Glossy lips will always make a bold appearance, but matte lipstick is bound to make you stand out in crowd. It is especially useful if you are going to office or some event and running late, but you can also wear in your everyday life. But just slathering matte lipstick on the lip won’t exactly create a great impression on people. There are a few tips and tricks which you must follow to make a bold statement with matte lipstick. In this OneHowTo article we're going to explain how to apply matte lipstick.

Exfoliate your lips

The cardinal rule before applying every lipstick is to exfoliate. But since you are using matte lipstick it is bound to make your lips look uneven if there is even a bit of dead dry skin. So, it is of dire importance to exfoliate your lips before applying matte lipstick.

A simple way to exfoliate the lips is to use an extra toothbrush with soft bristles and gently rub it over your lips. You can also use the mixture of brown sugar and lemon juice which exfoliates the lips along with making it light in color.

Moisturize

Moisturizing your lips before applying matte lipstick will keep them fresh all day long. If you don’t moisturize, matte lipstick can dry out your lips leaving cakey effect on it which will look extremely unappealing. Argan oil, coconut oil, almond oil or even your lip balm can do the wonderful work of moisturizing your lips.

Choose the right shade

Always make sure that you choose the right shade of matte lipstick. Too dark lipstick may look extremely bold in the wrong environment while too light matte lipstick might give your face the look of corpse. So, choose wisely before you apply it.

It is also possible to create your own matte lipstick at home. Following a simple recipe you'll be able to create your own lipstick with the color you prefer, even bold colors such as black lipstick.

Apply concealer

Applying concealer over your lips will bring out the true shade of your lipstick and the result will be extremely neat and beautiful.

You can skip the liner

If you are running late then you can skip the liner because matte lipstick does not bleed. You can use liner if you want a fuller looking pout.

Lipstick and lip brush

At first apply the lipstick as neatly as you can then finish it off with the right lip brush. Lip brush helps in filling the edges and adding definition to your look.

Do not rub your lips after applying matte lipstick, as this could erase the edges of the lipstick and it wouldn't look perfect anymore.

Blot with tissue

To remove the extra color, use a tissue or a piece of toilet paper. Press your lips together while keeping the tissue in between them. This will transfer the extra color on tissue while leaving the matte finish on your lips.

Now go off and show the world your bold new look.
