How to Apply a Face Mask Correctly
Face masks benefit the skin in multiple ways and are often necessary to give the face that much-needed help, whether it be hydration, exfoliation, cleaning, etc. However, when not applied properly or if we don't know how to use them, the effect is not the same and neither are the results. Here at OneHowTo learn how to apply a face mask correctly.
The first thing to know is that if your face mask is homemade, it is best that you make it on the day you want to use it. This way the ingredients are fresher and your skin will absorb all their benefits.
Before you start to apply a face mask properly, you should exfoliate your facial skin. This will remove dead skin cells and leave your face free of impurities so that the effect of the mask will be what you want it to be.
We recommend that you use hot steam on your face so that the pores dilate and are ready to properly absorb all the benefits and nutrients of your face mask. Do this with great caution: hold your face in the steam from a pot of boiling water and cover your head with a cloth so that all the steam will concentrate on your face. You can also soak a towel in hot water and put it over your face when you can stand the temperature, then leave it there until it's cool.
Face masks should not be applied by hand, because they can be mixed with bacteria and transferred to the face. It is best to apply it with a brush with very soft bristles that do not harm the skin. Cosmetic stores will have a great variety; choose one that is smooth, flat and medium-sized.
Apply your mask with the brush, covering your entire face with movements from the bottom up, so you avoid squeezing your skin. Cover your entire face and, most importantly, never forget to apply the mask to the neck and part of the neckline, as this area is also very delicate and appreciates facial care.
Once you've applied your face mask, leave it on for at least 20 minutes. If you apply a face mask and leave it on for less time, your skin may not get all the benefits that the mask can offer.
Finally, rinse your face with fresh water, neither too hot nor cold. Carefully remove the mask by hand or with a facial sponge. Make sure not to let your mask get in your eyes and irritate them. Then dry your face and apply moisturiser.
