Measure using string
Cut a piece of string. Then wrap it around the desired finger. Make sure that the string is a bit below the knuckle. Then, using a pen or marker, mark the position where the string meets the other end when wrapped around the finger. Then unwind the string from the finger. Place the string beside a ruler on a flat surface. Measure the size of the string. Then using a ring chart, translate the measurement from the ruler to the size of the ring.
Measure using paper strips
Cut a thin paper strip. Then wrap it around the desired finger. The paper should be placed so that it is touching the knuckle. For people who like to wear rings at the place between two knuckles, they can wrap the paper strip at that position to measure it. Using a marker or a pen, mark the place in the strip where it meets the end. Then remove the strip from your finger and measure the paper strip on a ruler. Then using a ring chart, translate the measurement from the ruler to the size of the ring. This will give you your ring size.
Measure using existing ring
If you are already in possession of a ring which fits you perfectly then it can be measured to find out the exact size. Take the help of a printed chart and place the ring over the circles. Then choose the size which fits the ring you have.
Points to consider while measuring ring size
- Do not measure your ring size during cold weather. In cold temperatures our fingers shrink. Hence, the ring worn with a measurement done during cold weather might not come off or slide easily in your finger during warm climate.
- Do not rely on just one measurement. While measuring with paper strips, string or wire take at least 2 – 3 measurements to be sure that you have obtained the accurate measurement.
- If your ring size falls in the intermediate range i.e. between two sizes then always prefer the larger size.
